Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)
This is the European legislation that requires all member countries to implement Energy
assessment surveys on all non domestic building. The UK government, in order to comply
with the directive, have set out the Energy Performance of buildings regulations (2007).
The Energy Performance of Buildings (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 were implemented in
phases from October 2008. The regulations introduced a new statutory requirement for buildings
to have Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and for certain buildings to have Display Energy
Certificates (DECs). Inspections of air-conditioning systems are also required from January 2009.
