The Challenge

Brighton Mews is a new-build development of seven three-bedroom homes with off-road parking in a central residential area of Southampton. As part of the planning conditions, the project needed to demonstrate a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions.

The development therefore needed a clear energy strategy at planning stage, followed by the relevant calculation, checking and testing work as the homes were completed.

Our Approach

Energy Report was commissioned to develop the energy strategy and produce the Energy Statement for Brighton Mews. This established the energy-focused planning support required for the scheme.

Once construction was complete, Energy Report carried out SAP calculations and as-built Part L checks for the homes. The team also completed air pressure tests across all seven properties. This created a joined-up service covering the project from its energy strategy and planning evidence through to completion-stage calculations and testing.

The Outcome

Energy Report delivered the energy strategy and Energy Statement for the seven-home development, followed by SAP calculations, as-built Part L checks and air pressure tests for every house.

The work gave Hampton Homes a defined package of energy and compliance services for a small residential scheme in Southampton, supporting the project’s planning requirement and its completion-stage assessment process.

Why It Matters

Brighton Mews demonstrates how planning-stage energy work and completion-stage testing can be coordinated for a new residential development. The case study brings together an Energy Statement, SAP calculations, as-built Part L checks and air pressure testing for every home on the site.

For developers in Southampton and across Hampshire, identifying the right energy services at each stage of a project can make the route from planning to completion clearer and easier to manage.
