Carbon Reduction Commitment
The Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme is a new carbon trading initiative implemented by the Department of Energy & Climate
Change (DECC) and the Environment Agency. The key aim of which is to instigate improvements in energy efficiency in large private sector and public
organisations.
What is the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme?
The CRC is a mandatory emission trading scheme which is was announced in the 2007 Energy White Paper. The scheme is an outcome of research carried
out by the Carbon Trust, which highlighted that large business and public sector organisations were failing to take up cost-effective energy
efficiency measures.
The scheme itself requires participants to calculate their CO² emissions for the forth coming year and purchase carbon credits from the scheme
for that year. The scheme is scheduled to run for a 5 year period starting in April 2010 and is intended to be revenue neutral to the government.
There will be a performance league table published of all organisations in the CRC, this will be published yearly.
When does the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme Start?
The scheme started in April 2010, all qualifying companies will be required to register for the scheme between 1st April 2010 and
30th September 2010.
Do I qualify for the CRC Energy Efficiency scheme?
All organisations with a half hourly meter (HHM) in 2008 are required to register for the scheme. Though at this stage, only organisations
with a total energy usage of 6,000MWh will he full participants of the scheme. Organisations with HHM but consume less than 6,000MWh,
are still required to register, but are unlikely at this stage to be required to participate. It is anticipated at this stage to be
approximately 5,000 organisations which will participate in the scheme.
How can we help?
Energy Report Limited are able to offer a consultancy service to participating CRC organisations, we employ CIBSE Low Carbon Consultants
who have a thorough knowledge of the requirements of the CRC, plus the technical knowledge in Energy Efficiency behavioural and infrastructure.
